Is this what one would call "Fan Art"?
Painted in PhotoshopCS2 with a teeny Wacom tablet. (Gemma, if you read this and think Hook looks somewhat like Big John, well ... DON'T TELL HIM!) If you know the story, you'll know why he's got a flash of red in his eyes. And yes, Peter is supposed to look a little pixie-ish in my mind, hence the larger eyes etc. Oh, and Hook's hook is a direct copy of the design of Hook's hook in the film "Hook" ... too many hooks ...
The reason behind this came from my having recently tracked down a 1984 copy of "Peter Pan and Wendy" that I'd had as a child, but was accidentally thrown out when I was about 10 yrs old: [link] I was devastated, as the illustrations were absolutely beautiful, and I've spent the last 18 yrs trying to find it again. ( Please don't use that to work out my age!) And I finally found a copy and I'm so happy!
Anyway, at first I imitated the artwork, homaging the front cover design etc, but ... well a) it wasn't my style, and b) I think the original artist is just so good and I love him to pieces, that whatever I attempted turned out crappy in comparison. I don't think I would've been happy with anything I did, so in the end I gave up and decided to do my own arty/illustrationy pictures in my own way. Hence this.
Now, I know my painting skills (digital or otherwise) are not brilliant and the faces look waxy and don't get me started on Jas. Hook's hair! But it's been a while since I've done any artwork, so this is the best I can do at the moment. I'm hoping to do lots more in different ways, not just Peter Pan, but my other obsessions too. I think Peter Pan was my first ... later followed by other band wagons such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Doctor Who etc. I figured it's like giving myself a mini project to do, seeing as I've struggled to draw for myself lately.

I like the shades and the colors, digital painting usually look simillar I think but your way of shading is really specific.. I hate the manga eyes ^^ But it's a cool picture.. So would you recommend the graphic pen? I never worked with it.. how long did it take you to get used to using it?
